Origin's technology produces bio-based intermediates from lignocellulosic (second generation) raw materials. Origin's intermediates can be used to make new polymers, surfactants, and carbon blacks, each with differentiated performance.

As an EH&S Leader at Origin, you will:   

 

  • Develop, implement and be an advocate for continuous improvement of EH&S programs, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain and annually update the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Chemical Hygiene and Emergency Action Plan  
  • Act as site lead to ensure compliance with all local, state and national EH&S regulatory requirements and record-keeping
  • Interface with external and governmental agencies including site audits and report submittals
  • Implement and lead the safety inspection/audit processes
  • Act as hazardous materials/waste coordinator with responsibility for management of waste manifest systems and waste vendor relationships
  • Manage the incident and near-miss reporting system; perform data analysis and communicate results and key learnings
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses  
  • Be accountable for implementation of the Emergency Response Plan and training
  • Manage new employee and visitor/contractor safety orientations
  • Engage employees and strengthen safety awareness and skills through training programs, effective communications, coaching and dialog
  • Provide guidance for selection and purchase of safety and personal protection equipment
  • Lead cross-functional EH&S-related committees
  • Discover and apply innovative approaches to address safety challenges  
  • Promote safe work practices on- and off-the-job
  • Collaborate with and advise colleagues at Origin Materials Canada research facility

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical or EHS field
  • Minimum 3-5 years EHS experience in an industrial R&D laboratory, pilot plant or manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of EH&S and hazardous materials regulations including Cal/OSHA, CalEPA, RCRA and local CUPA
  • Excellent communication skills (writing, speaking, listening)
